Our roots have been in Preston since 1828 but our global outlook means we now have students and researchers from over 100 countries and partnerships with 125 international institutions. In the last few years, thousands of our students have taken advantage of this huge partnership network to study or undertake a period of work placement abroad, adding a global perspective to their UCLan experience.

By any calculation we are one of the UK’s 10 largest universities but we are also renowned for our supportive, but academically challenging, student culture. All our programmes are relevant, rigorous and informed by employers to equip our graduates with the skills they need to thrive within their chosen careers. Students also benefit from work-related internships, award-winning volunteering schemes, international travel bursaries, dedicated career development advice and wide ranging cultural, sports and leisure programmes.

In recent years UCLan has invested over £100 million on infrastructure and technical support projects for both academic and non-academic activities. Our library, the true heartbeat of the University, is consistently ranked in the UK’s top ten for student satisfaction while our sporting facilities, both indoor and outdoor, are venues of such high standards that they regularly act as training settings for athletes of a world-class and Olympic standard, allowing you to improve your body at UCLan, as well as your mind.

In 2012, the most widely read and trusted university rankings, the QS World University Rankings awarded UCLan a coveted four stars overall, and within that five stars for excellence for our teaching quality and facilities, like our £15 million Media Factory and our cutting-edge science labs, where realistic environments can really help you to develop your skills.

It’s a UCLan fact

  • Official figures show over 90% of UCLan graduates go into a career or further studies within 6 months of graduation
  • UCLan is one of the world’s largest forensic science providers
  • UCLan is the only UK University collaborating with NASA and its international partners on the Solar Dynamics Observatory
  • Recent National Student Survey figures show 18 UCLan courses ranked in the Top 20 nationally

Real world and world-class

We’ve also earned a world-class reputation for research-based teaching with real world applications in areas such as science, medicine, media and business. UCLan courses are accredited by professional bodies, and many of our academics are acknowledged leaders in their fields. UCLan’s Internship Scheme also offers you the opportunity to work directly with them and gain valuable experience on projects from digital publishing to wind power.

So whether you plan to be an accountant, a nuclear scientist, or even the next Richard Branson, UCLan will help you to prepare for life’s great adventure.
