Pocket Money and Going Out
Pocket Money and Going Out
Whether you get pocket money or not, you may be asked about it in your speaking exam. You need to be able to say how much you get and what you spend the money on. If you don't get pocket money, but you have a part-time job, look at the Careers topic where you can get help with talking about part-time jobs.
In the meantime, remember you need to know pocket money vocabulary in case it crops up in the reading or listening exams.
You may be asked, "Wieviel Taschengeld bekommst du?"
Here are some ideas for answers:
|Ich bekomme||fünf Pfund||pro Woche|
|Ich kriege||zehn Pfund||im Monat|
Here are some examples of how you may be asked what you do with the money:
|Was kaufst du mit dem Geld?||What do you buy with the money?|
|Wofür brauchst du das Geld?||For what do you need the money?|

In your speaking exam you may have to take part in a role-play to do with making arrangements to go out. You will have to know such vocabulary as suggesting somewhere to go and arranging a time and place to meet. You never know when this may come in useful if you meet a young German-speaking person who you want to ask out!
Here are some ideas of the basic structures:
|How to invite someone out:|
|Hast du Lust ins Kino zu gehen?||Do you want to go to the cinema?|
|Hast du Lust Tennis zu spielen?||Do you want to play tennis?|
|Hast du Lust schwimmen zu gehen?||Do you want to go swimming?|
|Hast du Lust in den Klub zu gehen?||Do you want to go to the club?|
|Ich gehe ins Kino. Kommst du mit?||I'm going to the cinema. Do you want to come too?|
|Ich spiele Tennis. Kommst du mit?||I'm going to play tennis. Do you want to come too?|
|How to reply to an invitation:|
|Ja, gerne.||Yes, great.|
|Ja, ich komme gern mit.||Yes, I'd like to come too.|
|Nein danke, ich habe keine Lust dazu.||No thanks, I don't want to.|
|Nein, danke, ich komme nicht mit.||No thanks, I won't be coming too.|
|Nein, ich würde lieber in die Disco gehen.||No, I'd rather go to the disco.|
|Nein, ich würde lieber Fussball spielen.||No, I'd rather play football.|
|How to arrange a time to meet:|
|Wann treffen wir uns?||When shall we meet?|
|Treffen wir uns um acht Uhr?||Shall we meet at eight o'clock?|
|How to arrange a meeting place:|
|Wo treffen wir uns?||Where shall we meet?|
|Treffen wir uns vor dem Rathaus?||Shall we meet in front of the town hall?|
|Treffen wir uns an der Bushaltestelle?||Shall we meet at the bus stop?|
Here is some further practice on the structures you need to know to make arrangements to go out. In this exercise the sentences are in the wrong order for the conversation to make sense.
Click on the sentences until they are in the correct order. Mark your answer each time to see if you are on the right track...
